When you are in the market for a new heating system, you’ll have many high–efficiency options to choose from. While heat pumps are more efficient than some other types of heating units, newer heat pumps have significantly higher efficiency ratings than older models.

The Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) is a measure of a gas furnace's efficiency in converting fuel to energy, by projecting the average thermal efficiency for a complete heating season.  For instance, if a heater has an 80% AFUE rating, that particular model converts 80% of the fuel into heat, so a model with a 90% or greater rating will be a lot more efficient.

A higher AFUE rating means greater energy efficiency.

If you are considering a new heat pump in Massachusetts, you will have to consider the HSPF rating for the heating mode, which is measured by a different set of numbers. Heat pumps with an HSPF of at least 8 or greater will be the more efficient models. You can also look for the ENERGY STAR label, since these models are some of the most efficient units on the market today. In technical term, HSPF represents the total heating output of a heat pump (including supplementary electric heat) during the normal heating season (in Btu) as compared to the total electricity consumed (in watt-hours) during the same period. HSPF is based on tests performed in accordance with AHRI 210/240.

The higher the HSPF, the more efficient the heat pump.

While the number of choices may seem overwhelming, we can help you compare the different heating systems and go over the efficiency ratings with you. Our expert team members stay up to date with the latest in HVAC technology so that they can assist our customers in finding the right system for their budget and heating needs. Call us any time to talk to one of our Kingston area heating and cooling professionals about installing a new high–efficiency heating system.
We can help you decide if a replacement is your best option, or if you need an entirely different type of heating system. We will also remove your old system as part of our service.

Here are some questions to ask that may help you decide whether to replace your current system:

*Is your heating system older than 15 years?
*Do you pay for constant heating repairs?
*Are there major damages to your unit or ductwork?
*Does your system cycle on and off too often?
*Are your monthly heating bills too high?
*Does your heater heat your home inconsistently?
*Are you updating or remodeling other parts of your home?

begins to ensure that your system will run properly throughout the winter.
